About Coaching

Sometimes you need space to reflect on life with someone you can trust, but not every challenge requires a mental health setting. As a coach, I can help when you feel burned out, struggle to make decisions, and need to clarify the values that will guide you into a more meaningful and creative future.

Coaching uses conversation techniques and reflective activities to draw out your truth. I do not tell you what to do or why to do it. We trust that the truth is already within you waiting for a safe place to be revealed. Some people gain clarity within a single hour. Most people need longer. I offer flexible choices that help you get the most out of coaching for as long as you need it.

About Derek

There have been times in my own life when I had to stop and recognize what was important to me: when I got married, became a parent, stopped drinking too much, started running, and times when I left ministry and returned to it. Learning to live from your values requires a shift. The shift I’ve made is moving away from the checklist mentality that says I should always be gaining (money, security, promotion, affection, you name it). Ticking off boxes on my list felt good for a while, but there was always an undercurrent of stress and anxiety. What does it mean if I don’t get promoted? What does it mean if I don’t get married? I was focused on the outcomes, but what I actually cared about is what it all means.

A minister asked me, “Derek, what do you want for your life.” I couldn’t really answer. I was in my thirties, and I had ticked off more than a few boxes, but I was still searching. That conversation set me on a course toward a deeper truth in myself and the world: we are spiritual beings who seek meaning above all else. I started reading. I started praying. I started learning to sit still and pay attention to my feelings. Above all, I stopped paying attention to what I was or was not gaining, and started paying attention to what I value. I would love to make that journey with you.
